Casa de Fruta Partners to Send Fruit and Nut Care Packages to Wounded and Deployed U.S. Soldiers
Hollister, CA (ContentDesk) June 27, 2006 -- Casa de Fruta, a family-owned dried fruit and nut grower, is partnering with two non-profit organizations to send care packages filled with healthy snacks, treats and patriotic items to wounded and deployed American soldiers. This collaboration enables donors, via the Casa de Fruta website (www.casadefruta.com), to select the appropriate donor level and gift basket they would like shipped to U.S. soldiers who are either deployed or wounded and recovering in hospitals abroad.????The two organizations partnering with Casa de Fruta are Operation First Response, which will forward the care packages to wounded soldiers in combat hospitals, and Blue Star Moms, which will send the care packages to deployed soldiers. Operation First Response is dedicated to sending care packages to wounded American soldiers in combat support hospitals in Iraq, Germany and other locations around the world, while Blue Star Moms is a support group for military mothers and families in Northern California and is the Bay Area chapter of the national group, Blue Star Moms of America.
"As the 4th of July draws near and America displays its patriotism, weve developed an easy way for our customers to reach out and help soldiers wounded in Iraq or Afghanistan or deployed throughout the world," said Gene Zanger, Casa de Fruta managing partner.

The "Patriot Pack" and the "Stars and Stripes Pack" will go to deployed soldiers, while the "Help a Soldier Package" and the "We Care Package" will go to wounded soldiers and their families.The packages cost between 15 and 30 and feature items such as dried fruits, banana chips, almonds and chocolate, along with red, white and blue yoyos and bandanas. Donors need not know a specific soldier or location and can leave it to Operation First Response and Blue Star Moms to identify and handle the shipping arrangements.Customers can purchase the care packages on Casa de Frutas website and they will be sent to the designated non-profit organization.Operation First Response, an all-volunteer organization, will send the care packages in backpacks filled with handmade quilts, clothes and hygiene items to soldiers wounded during combat. Blue Star Mothers will mail postcards and care packages to deployed sons and daughters. The care packages arrive with a letter that asks the soldier to share the Blue Star Moms package with his or her unit.Customers can also purchase care packages for individual soldiers.
